Wheels Manufacturing BBright bottom bracket, outboard threaded, black, Enduro ABEC5 Zero ceramic bearings, for Shimano Hollowtech II cranksets with 24 mm axles, press-fit dimensions 46x79 mm
Wheels Manufacturing Outboard Bottom Bracket
The outboard bottom brackets from Wheels Manufacturing allow MTB and road cranks with a 24 mm axle to be fitted into frames with BBRIGHT bottom bracket shells measuring 79 mm in width and with a 46 mm press-fit depth.
Unlike other press-fit bottom brackets, the Wheels Manufacturing cup sets are bolted together. This has the major advantage that the bottom bracket shell sits very securely and absolutely parallel within the frame. This ensures a long service life for the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket cups are made from high-strength aluminium. To ensure optimum durability, Wheels MFG manufactures its own bottom bracket cups for each bottom bracket shell, with the correct offset, even if the press-fit depth is the same as for 386EVO, Pressfit 30 and BBright bottom brackets. This ensures that the bearings are positioned as far out as possible and the crank axle is supported as effectively as possible. Other manufacturers use spacers for the different installation widths, which is not quite as optimal.
Wheels Zero Ceramic Angular Contact Ball Bearings:
The Zero Ceramic Enduro bearings feature high-end Type 3 ceramic balls with stainless steel bearing cups. These ceramic balls are the roundest available for civilian use. The bearing cups are made from pure silicon nitride material with extremely high density and a uniform surface. They also weigh 60 per cent less and are seven times harder than steel balls. Angular contact ball bearings have raceways in the inner and outer rings that are offset relative to the bearing axis. They are designed for bearings that must withstand combined loads, i.e. simultaneous radial and axial loads.
Shimano Hollowtech II crankset axle 24 mm / Road - MTB 68-73 mm:
The Shimano Hollowtech II crankset system features a solid 24 mm axle. The road bike cranksets have an axle length of 110 mm, whilst the MTB cranksets for 73 and 68 mm bottom bracket shells have an axle length of 120 mm. This axle system is also used in FSA Megaexo cranksets and Race Face X-type cranksets. The respective bottom brackets are compatible with one another.
BBright bottom bracket shells:
BBright bottom bracket shells have a width of 79 mm and a press-fit dimension for the bottom bracket of 46 mm. These bottom brackets are press-fitted. With Wheels Threaded or Cane Creek bottom brackets, the bottom bracket cups are screwed together and thus pulled into the bottom bracket shell. This is the significantly more durable assembly method, as the bearings are perfectly secured in the frame by the bottom bracket cups.
