IS/Integrated Standard – fully integrated headset:
Head sets designated IS / Integrated Standard are also referred to as fully integrated head sets. These head sets require a frame designed for this purpose with a raceway for the bearings. Integrated Standard refers to the fact that the bearings are inserted into the head tube without bearing cups, and IS44, for example, refers to the installation dimension, outer diameter of the bearings and inner diameter of the bearings in the frame. These headsets do not require any special tools; the frame is already prepared for them.
