The Chris King AeroSet 1:
This headset now brings the proven Chris King quality to road bikes with internal cable routing from ENVE or FSA. Brake and gear cables, as well as DI2 cables, are discreetly routed through the frame, resulting in a clean and aerodynamic cockpit. With IS52 upper and lower cups, it is suitable for frames with a fully integrated 52 mm headset shell on the head tube and tapered forks with a steerer tube diameter of 1 1/8 inch / 28.6 mm at the top, 1.5 inches / 38 mm at the bottom and a 40 mm taper. The cap covers are made from aluminium and CNC-machined; the bearings are ceramic, multi-sealed and so well-made that Chris King offers a 10-year warranty on all headsets. Furthermore, the bearings are easy to maintain.
ENVE IN-Route cable routing:
Hidden cables and lines are essential when it comes to modern bicycles and aerodynamic advantages in competition. As a complete system, ENVE IN-Route offers a wide range of stem, handlebar, headset and fork combinations to provide the right fit for every frame material and rider size. It routes all shift and brake cables through the stem, then through the headset, and aligns them in front of the steerer tube. From there, the front brake cable enters a connection at the front of the steerer tube to be routed through the left fork leg to the brake. The rest flows around the steerer tube into the down tube. These features make IN-Route a complete solution for cable integration.
IN-Route works by routing brake lines and cables through the handlebars, into the stem and down into the front section of the head tube. This is achieved by using a fork with a round 1.125-inch steerer tube and routing the hoses/cables between the steerer tube and the larger 1.5-inch upper headset bearing. The upper bearing cap and spacers match the shape of the IN-Route stem and the SES AR One-Piece handlebar from ENVE.
Chris King quality:
Anyone who hears the name Chris King immediately thinks of extremely durable headsets. Manufactured by Chris King in Portland, Oregon, USA, to a standard of quality that rightly deserves the label ‘indestructible’. The benchmark in headsets – often copied, never equalled – which is why it comes with a 10-year warranty.
Chris King Ceramic Bearings
Chris King’s ceramic bearings offer the same qualities in terms of durability, maintenance and performance, but are even lighter and harder than the tried-and-tested stainless steel bearings. One of the most outstanding features of the ceramic balls used is their incredibly geometrically perfect roundness; furthermore, the extremely smooth surface guarantees optimal rolling behaviour and precision fit. The ceramic bearings are even lighter and harder than the stainless steel bearings; embedded in external bearing cups and multi-sealed, the bearings are virtually indestructible.
Chris King GripLock:
The multi-piece GripLock end cap is fitted with a slotted cone ring, which allows for an even simpler connection between the steerer tube and the head tube
IS, Integrated Standard fully integrated headsets:
Head sets with the Integrated Standard (IS) require frames that incorporate the raceway for the head set bearings; this is why they are also referred to as fully integrated. The head set then consists of the bearings, which are inserted into the head tube of the frame, the fork cone and the upper bearing cover with cap and claw.
IS bearing installation dimensions 52-28.6 mm:
Upper frame mount 1.5 inches / 52 mm diameter, bearing angle 45x45 degrees, upper steerer tube diameter 28.6 mm, 1 1/8 inches
Bearing installation dimensions IS 52-40 mm:
lower frame mount 1.5 inches / 52 mm diameter, bearing angle 45x45 degrees, lower steerer tube diameter 38 mm, 1.5 inches. The tapered seat is 40 mm.
