DT Swiss Dicut PR 1400 Oxic wheelset
With the PR1400 Dicut OXiC wheels, DT Swiss is introducing its new OXiC technology for the first time, which not only gives the wheels their elegant, matt black finish but also provides important performance features. Lightweight, weighing just 1435 grams, with sturdy asymmetrical aluminium clincher rims, ceramic OXIC coating, and high-end DT Swiss Dicut hubs based on the DT 240 series. The lightweight and reliable, asymmetrically drilled ceramic-coated aluminium rims form the foundation for a lightweight yet responsive wheel with perfect braking performance in all weather conditions. A perfect finish and the sophisticated construction of the DICUT hubs make the PR 1400 DICUT one of the top aluminium wheels on the market.
DT Swiss Dicut hubs:
The Dicut hubs are perfectly matched to the Nail Häd spoke system and offer optimum aerodynamics. Equipped with top-end stainless steel bearings and a widened flange spacing for optimum lateral stiffness at low weight. The ratchet body with Ratchet Star ratchet pawl is virtually maintenance-free and easy to convert
DT Swiss PR Oxic Dicut rims:
The Oxic ceramic-coated rims offer excellent and consistent braking performance in all conditions. Unlike conventional aluminium rims, which wear out due to abrasion caused by brake pads and environmental particles as well as heat build-up, the OXiC surface is so hard that these factors cannot affect it over the normal service life of the wheel. Despite its extreme hardness, the OXiC coating can withstand deformation and thus retains its properties even under high mechanical stress. The OXiC process does not use any volatile organic compounds or heavy metals, making it a highly environmentally friendly process. Black rims that stay black: as the OXiC coating contains no paints or varnishes, it is 100 per cent UV and sunlight resistant.
Swiss Stop BXP brake pads, item no. SW-20BXP, are required for the Oxic rims. These are not included with the Campagnolo version of the wheels
DT Swiss Oxic Process
The Oxic process refers to an electrochemical ceramic coating that makes the rim surfaces very hard and durable. This creates an elegant, matt black finish that offers excellent braking performance whilst reducing abrasion on the rim to an absolute minimum. The ceramic layer is produced in a similar way to anodising, namely in an electrolyte bath by applying an electrical voltage between the component (as one electrode) and the container (as the other electrode). The key difference between anodising and Oxic lies in the millions of plasma discharges between the electrolyte bath and the rim, which exert high temperatures and pressures on the forming oxide layer. This causes the forming oxide to melt, flow and solidify again. During this process, the amorphous, disordered structure of the oxide transforms into a crystalline, ordered structure. This is why OXiC is so hard and durable. According to DT Swiss, the coating’s lifespan is as long as that of the spokes and hubs. A prerequisite is the use of DT Swiss Special brake pads
DT Swiss Dicut spokes:
Lacing with the Nail Head System ensures that the spokes cannot twist under load, so the spokes always remain at the most aerodynamically favourable angle. Flatter and lighter than all others, the DT Swiss Aerolite spokes feature an aerodynamic flat profile and are extremely lightweight. On the freehub side of the Dicut wheels, the slightly heavier and even more stable DT Aerocomp spokes are fitted.
DT Swiss Star Ratchet Freewheel:
The proven DT Swiss Ratchet System hub system allows for easy conversion to various axle or rotor standards. The multi-tooth ratchet freehub body ensures loss-free power transmission. The rear hubs can be converted to Campagnolo ED, Shimano HG and Sram XD freehub bodies without tools.
