Magura MT 8 SL Disc Flat Mount Brake Set
The new Magura MT 8 SL brakes with HC 1-finger carbon levers and flat mount calipers for cross-country bikes. The flat mount calipers allow for a maximum brake disc size of 160 mm and further reduce the weight of the brakes to just 185 grams. The piston design and sizes have been carried over from the tried-and-tested MT8 brakes; the standard MT brake pads also fit the Flat Mount brakes.
Manufactured from Carbotecture, the MT8 brakes are significantly lighter and even stronger than conventional disc brakes with aluminium levers. The minimalist brake caliper offers excellent heat dissipation. Aluminium brake lever and handlebar clamp are very lightweight. The brake lever can be mounted on either the right or left side; the hose length is always 220 cm
Magura’s top-of-the-range model, the MT8 SL Disc, achieves the perfect balance between weight and stability through the consistent use of the finest materials and extensive FE analysis. The carbon caliper and carbon lever are manufactured using the innovative Carbolay process, offering high strength with minimal weight.
Magura MT 8 brake lever:
The MT8 HC1 brake levers can be mounted on either the right or left side
- Magura HC 1 brake lever: the short version of the brake lever offers a particularly crisp bite point. The bite point is adjusted using Torque
- Magura Carbotecture SL: A material newly developed by Magura, consisting of a high proportion of carbon fibres embedded in a thermoplastic matrix. More powerful, more tensile, more flexible and more fracture-resistant than conventional fibre-reinforced plastics or laminated carbon fibre mats. Ideally suited for processing in the Carboflow process.
- Magura Carboflow: A process newly developed by Magura that allows carbon fibres to be optimally aligned with the direction of stress. Produces homogeneous, predictable surfaces. Significant weight savings are possible, as there is no need for oversizing.
- Magura Carbolay: The fibres of the lever are stitched onto a carrier matrix before being coated with resin and cured.
Magura MT 8 Flat Mount brake caliper:
The Magura MT8 Flat Mount brake calipers are forged from a high-performance aluminium alloy and feature the new magnetiXchange brake pistons for easy pad replacement. The one-piece brake caliper offers maximum performance and safety even on long descents thanks to efficient heat dissipation via its large surface area and open double-arch design.
- Magura MagneticXchange: the magnetic brake pistons make it easier to fit the brake pads
- Magura Anti-Squeal: The combination of a specially formulated brake pad compound and brake disc design counteracts noise during braking.
- Magura Anti-Drag: Newly developed sealing rings and an adapted piston design ensure that, even when used in sub-zero temperatures or extremely muddy conditions, the pistons always return to their original position and do not rub against the disc.
- Magura Anti-Heat: The entire MT brake caliper system is designed to dissipate heat quickly into the surrounding environment, preventing a drop in performance.
- Magura RHR: The new Magura brakes, MT8, MT6 and MT4, are factory-fitted with a swivelling hose outlet on the spoke side to prevent damage and allow for neat hose routing on various frame designs.
Flat Mount Caliper Standard:
The Flat Mount brake caliper standard, originally developed for road bikes, is now used on race MTBs. It reduces weight and offers a significantly sleeker look. With the Flat Mount standard, the rear brake caliper sits directly on the chainstay; no adapter is required for 140 mm brake caliper mounting. The bolts pass through the chainstay from below directly into the brake caliper. A flat adapter is still required on the fork. The adapter is screwed onto the rear of the fork leg, with the brake sitting directly on the adapter. By rotating the adapter, the available brake disc size can be changed between 140 and 160 mm.
Magura Royal Blood:
Magura continues to rely on high-performance mineral oil as the brake fluid. It is completely harmless to health in the event of skin contact and, as it does not absorb moisture over time like DOT fluid, the bleeding intervals are significantly longer. For optimal performance, bleeding is required every 6–12 months, depending on frequency of use.
