Shimano manufactures its own sprockets with different shift patterns for almost every cassette configuration. Therefore, the replacement sprockets and sprocket blocks are only perfectly matched to one another in the specified configuration. If you mix sprockets from different configurations, shifting performance may deteriorate significantly.
