Shimano has developed a durable, stiff yet lightweight crankset specifically for an aggressive riding style; the Zee FCM640 crankset features a steel axle and steel pedal threaded sleeves. By using a solid crank arm and a hollow axle, Shimano has achieved the perfect balance between stiffness and load-bearing capacity. Using Shimano’s proprietary forging technology, the developers were able to integrate a hollow bottom bracket shell, which ensures high stiffness and low weight, thereby guaranteeing a balanced ratio between these two characteristics.
