Wheels Manufacturing Outboard Bottom Bracket

The outboard bottom brackets from Wheels Manufacturing allow MTB and road cranks with a 24 mm axle to be fitted to frames with BB30 bottom bracket shells with a 42 mm press-fit depth at 68 and 73 mm widths.

BB930 bottom bracket shells:

The BB30 bottom bracket shells have a width of 68–73 mm and a press-fit depth of 42 mm. The 68 mm installation dimension is compatible with road and MTB cranksets, whilst the 73 mm installation dimension is compatible only with MTB cranksets. These bottom brackets are press-fitted.

Shimano Hollowtech II crank axle 24 mm / Road - MTB:

The Shimano Hollowtech II crankset system features a solid 24 mm axle. Road bike cranksets have an axle length of 110 mm and MTB cranksets 120 mm. This axle system is also used on FSA Megaexo cranksets and Race Face X-type cranksets. The respective bottom brackets are compatible with one another. The DH Saint and Zee cranks for 83 and 100 mm installation widths have longer axles and will only fit frames with correspondingly wider bottom bracket shells.

FSA MegaExo 24 mm / Road - MTB:

The FSA MegaExo crankset system features a solid 24 mm axle, in line with the Shimano Hollowtech II system. However, some models are fitted with a 24.7 mm axle. These

Unlike other press-fit bottom brackets, the Wheels Manufacturing Outboard bottom bracket cups are bolted together. This has the major advantage that the bottom bracket cups, and therefore the bearings, sit very firmly and absolutely parallel within the frame. This reliably prevents the annoying and irritating creaking and grinding of the bearings in the frame. Even frames with slightly worn-out bottom bracket shells can often still be used with this system. This ensures a long service life for both the bottom bracket and the frame. The bottom bracket cups are made from high-strength aluminium.

Wheels Zero Ceramic Angular Contact Ball Bearings:

The Zero Ceramic Enduro bearings feature high-end Type 3 ceramic balls with stainless steel bearing cups. These ceramic balls are the roundest available for civilian use. The bearing cups are made from pure silicon nitride material with extremely high density and a uniform surface. Furthermore, they are 60 per cent lighter and seven times harder than steel balls. Angular contact ball bearings have raceways in the inner and outer rings that are offset relative to the bearing axis. They are designed for applications that must withstand combined loads, i.e. simultaneous radial and axial loads.

Wheels Outboard bottom bracket compatibility:

BB-24MM-1.0) are required for MTB cranksets. For installation, use a Hollowtech II-compatible bottom bracket tool, such as the TL-FC32 or TL-FC33
