Wheels Manufacturing Outboard Bottom Bracket

The Outboard bottom brackets from Wheels Manufacturing allow Sram MTB and road cranksets with a 24-22 mm GXP axle to be fitted to frames with BBRIGHT bottom bracket shells measuring 79 mm in width and with a 46 mm press-fit depth.

SRAM cranksets with the GXP axle system have a narrower axle diameter on the non-drive side than Shimano Hollowtech II cranksets. Therefore, these bottom brackets are only compatible with SRAM GXP cranksets

Unlike other press-fit bottom brackets, Wheels Manufacturing cup sets are bolted together. This has the major advantage that the bottom bracket shell sits very securely and absolutely parallel within the frame. This ensures a long service life for the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket cups are made from high-strength aluminium. For optimum durability, Wheels MFG manufactures its own bottom bracket cups for each bottom bracket shell, with the correct offset, even if the press-fit dimension is the same as for 386EVO, Pressfit 30 and BBright bottom brackets. This ensures that the bearings are positioned as far outwards as possible and the crank axle is supported as effectively as possible. Other manufacturers use spacers for the different installation widths, which is not quite as ideal.

Wheels Enduro ABEC3 ball bearings:

The Wheels Enduro ABEC3 ball bearings offer very high precision. The balls are twice as round as standard industrial bearings, with a roundness tolerance of within 10 / 1,000,000. The ball material, 52100 high-carbon chromium alloy, is extremely robust and specially hardened. It is also polished to a high gloss.

Sram GXP crank axle:

The Sram GXP crankset system with different axle diameters. The outer diameter of the axle on the drive side is 24 mm and 22 mm on the left side. GXP-compatible bottom brackets are required for this.

BBright bottom bracket shells:

The BBright bottom bracket shells have a width of 79 mm and a press-fit dimension for the bottom bracket of 46 mm. These bottom brackets are press-fitted. With Wheels Threaded or Cane Creek bottom brackets, the bottom bracket cups are screwed together and thus pulled into the bottom bracket shell. This is the significantly more durable assembly method, as the bearings are perfectly secured in the frame by the bottom bracket cups.
