Bottom Bracket Wheels Manufacturing
These threaded bottom brackets from Wheels Manufacturing allow MTB and road cranks with 24 mm axles to be fitted to frames with BB386Evo and BB392EVO3 bottom bracket shells, which have a width of 86–92 mm and a press-fit depth of 46 mm. These bottom brackets are compatible with Sram and Truvativ GXP cranksets featuring 24/22 mm axles.
Unlike other press-fit bottom brackets, the Wheels Manufacturing cups are bolted together. This has the major advantage that the bottom bracket shell sits very securely and absolutely parallel within the frame. This ensures a long service life for the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket cups are made from high-strength aluminium. For optimum durability, Wheels MFG manufactures its own bottom bracket cups for each bottom bracket shell, with the correct offset, even if the press-fit dimension is the same as for 386EVO, Pressfit 30 and BBright bottom brackets. This ensures that the bearings are positioned as far out as possible and the crank axle is supported as effectively as possible. Other manufacturers use spacers for the different installation widths, which is not quite as optimal.
Wheels Enduro Angular Contact Ball Bearings:
The Wheels Enduro ABEC5 angular contact ball bearings are specially designed for use in hubs and bottom brackets. Whereas in standard radial bearings only 3 or 4 balls are loaded simultaneously, in angular contact ball bearings all balls are loaded evenly. This is why this type of bearing is also known as a full-contact bearing. This distributes the applied force across the entire bearing, reducing friction and wear. The balls in these bearings are manufactured with extreme precision, with a tolerance of just 10/1,000,000 – twice as precise as standard industrial bearings.
SRAM GXP crank axle:
The SRAM GXP crankset system features different axle diameters. The outer diameter of the axle on the drive side is 24 mm and 22 mm on the left side. GXP-compatible bottom brackets are required for this.
BB386EVO bottom bracket shell:
The 386EVO bottom bracket shells have a width of 86.5 mm and a press-fit dimension for the bottom bracket of 46 mm. These bottom brackets are pressed in. With Wheels or Cane Creek bottom brackets, the bearing sleeves are screwed together and thus pulled into the bottom bracket shell. This is the significantly more durable assembly method, as the bearings are additionally secured by the bearing sleeve.
BB392EVO bottom bracket shells:
The 392EVO bottom bracket shells have a width of 92 mm and a press-fit dimension for the bottom bracket of 46 mm. These bottom brackets are press-fitted. With Wheels or Cane Creek bottom brackets, the bottom bracket cups are screwed together and thus pulled into the bottom bracket shell. This is the significantly more durable method of assembly, as the bearings are additionally secured by the bottom bracket cup.
