Compatibility:

The SRAM Force AXS eTap Disc shifter is compatible with all AXS rear derailleurs and front derailleurs, road and MTB. SRAM Flat Mount brake calipers with straight hose connections can be used. Even if you only want to use a single-chainring setup, you will need both a right and a left shifter, as each lever has only one switch

SRAM Force AXS disc brake, ED-FORCE-E1

The SRAM AXS shift levers don’t just feature a new piston design. Weight has been reduced wherever possible: the new shift-brake levers and brake calipers are 83 g lighter than the previous generation. The brake calipers are not only lighter but also stiffer, as the bolts holding the two halves of the caliper together are positioned closer together. The piston has been offset outwards to optimise the contact point on the brake disc. Together with the gains in stiffness and the shift in the contact point, we have achieved a significant increase in braking power. The brake caliper is 13% lighter, 11% stiffer and the contact point has been moved 1 mm outwards radially – these three factors help to increase overall braking power and make the power available earlier in the lever travel, says Gruse. More braking power, with 80% less effort required when braking from the grips and 33% less effort when braking from the lower handlebar, for a effortless ride.

Completely new grip ergonomics – now also available for the Force. The system features stiffer brake calipers, the ability to brake with just one finger from the lower and upper handlebar positions, bonus buttons and a texture that makes it easier to locate and operate the buttons and levers. These improvements are the result of over four years of feedback from a wide variety of riders and deliver a new level of comfort and control for an even broader range of riders. SRAM AXS Technology

AXS is the electronic integration platform that connects SRAM’s electronic bike components and software. The AXS components communicate wirelessly using 128-bit encryption. Every time a groupset comprising, for example, shift levers, a front derailleur and a rear derailleur is paired, a unique code is generated to prevent interference with other cyclists. The SRAM AXS app allows you to check battery status, adjust component behaviour, customise controllers, receive maintenance reminders and update the firmware. This app is available free of charge from the App Store for iOS and Android.

Flat Mount Standard:

The Flat Mount brake caliper standard for road bike brakes reduces weight and offers a significantly sleeker look. With the Flat Mount standard, the rear brake caliper sits directly on the chainstay, with a bolt spacing of 35 mm; no adapter is required for mounting the brake caliper. The bolts pass through the chainstay from below directly into the brake caliper. A flat adapter is still required on the fork; the fork mount has a bolt spacing of 75 mm and the brake caliper is the same as that used on the rear wheel. The adapter is screwed onto the rear of the fork leg, with the brake sitting directly on the adapter. By flipping the adapter over, the available brake disc sizes can be changed between 140 and 160 mm.
