Shimano 105 12-speed R7100 Disc groupset
As a complete package, the Shimano 105 R7170 Di2 Disc Flat Mount groupset, optionally with bottom bracket and charger. The new Shimano 105 series Di2 R717000 disc brake components, the entry-level range of Shimano’s electronic road bike components, is available only as a disc brake version.
The new Shimano 105 relies on a hybrid system comprising a wireless connection between the cockpit components and a cable connection between the rear derailleur, front derailleur and the central battery, usually housed in the seat tube, ensuring maximum reliability in all conditions. And just like its big brothers DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA, the SHIMANO 105 also excels thanks to extensive options for quickly and easily customising it to the rider’s wishes and preferences via the E-TUBE app.
Via E-TUBE PROJECT, the shifting system can be individually configured by, for example, adjusting the shift speed, the number of shifts when the button is held down, or the Synchro-Shift and Semi-Synchro-Shift functionality.
Furthermore, the system can be paired with many third-party cycle computers, including Garmin and Wahoo. This allows these devices to display, for example, the current gear or the battery charge level.
The new Di2 platform for 12-speed components requires no cable connection to the rear derailleur and front derailleurs. The Di2 Dual Control shift levers ST-R7170 have the necessary wireless module integrated. Power is supplied by CR1632 batteries, which have a service life of up to 2 years. The Di2 12-speed rear derailleur, with its additional wireless unit, acts as a receiver and distributor of shift signals and is connected to the battery and front derailleur for power supply and shift command transmission. Additional wireless components, including those from third-party manufacturers, can also be paired with the rear derailleur.
Synchro-Shift technology
Synchro-Shift technology greatly simplifies shifting and significantly reduces the number of decision-making processes that take place whilst riding. Particularly in crucial race situations or when riding at full throttle, riders often have to navigate a multitude of decision-making processes alongside the physical strain, which are frequently disrupted and lead to wrong decisions. The fewer decisions there are to make, the better the decisions will be and the more attention can be focused on the race. This is precisely what Shimano Synchro-Shift technology enables, always selecting the optimal next-higher or next-lower gear combination, regardless of whether this requires shifting at the rear derailleur and/or the front derailleur.
Shimano Synchro-Shift functions
- Full Synchro-Shift: The front derailleur responds to the shifting operations performed by the rider on the rear derailleur. Essentially, this means that only a single shifter with two levers is required to operate both the rear and front derailleurs.
- Semi Synchro-Shift: The rear derailleur responds to the gear changes the rider makes on the front derailleur. The rear derailleur automatically performs the necessary compensatory shifts for small changes in cadence when shifting up or down on the front derailleur.
Shimano 12-speed Di2 installation:
Shift commands are transmitted wirelessly from the shift levers to the rear derailleur. Only the rear derailleur and front derailleur are connected to the battery via cables. This ensures a clean look and significantly reduces the installation effort. The shift levers are powered by CR1632 batteries. The shift levers feature an additional cable connection, which allows for the connection of auxiliary switches.

Shimano 105 RD R7150 Di2 rear derailleur
The new 105 rear derailleur is the centrepiece of the new Di2 components. It provides the wireless functionality and connection to external components, and also includes the charging port, replacing the previous SM-BCR2 charger. The rear derailleur also houses the transmitter for wireless communication with the STI shifters and other external devices, including those from third-party manufacturers. Furthermore, it features the status LED and the adjustment button, which is used, for example, to switch between Synchro-Shift modes, meaning that the previous Junction A port is no longer required.
Shimano 105 FD R7150 Di2 front derailleur
Lighter, faster and more aerodynamic: the Ultegra 12-speed Di2 front derailleur. Designed for chainring sizes ranging from 50/34 to 54/40 teeth, the new 12-speed 105 Di2 front derailleur operates even faster and with greater precision. More compact and faster than ever before, the 105 R7150 front derailleur delivers shifts with digital precision in all conditions. By combining Shimano’s new Di2 platform with the road bike version of Hyperglide+, the 105 R7150 front derailleur shifts between chainrings as quickly and seamlessly as no other model on the market.
Shimano 105 Di2 Disc Shift/Brake Levers ST R7170:
The Di2 Disc wireless shift/brake levers, featuring a new ergonomic shape, are characterised by higher levers that are also slightly angled inwards. Furthermore, the clearance between the brake lever and the handlebar has been slightly increased to enable the optimal balance of comfort and control. Road cyclists will now be able to grip the new levers better and more securely with their thumb and index finger, whilst the remaining three fingers can be comfortably positioned between the handlebars and the brake lever. However, thanks to adjustments and enlargements to the design of the shift buttons, these remain easy to reach from the lower handlebar position. Furthermore, the two shift buttons on each STI lever are now positioned at a greater height difference from one another, enabling more intuitive operation, particularly with wet, cold fingers or full-finger gloves. The 105 Di2 STI levers do not have an additional connection for full cabling or an auxiliary shift lever
Shimano 105 Disc Brake Caliper BR-R7170:
The BR-R7170 road bike disc brake calipers for the 12-speed 105 Di2 groupset. These calipers are compatible with all Shimano disc brake levers. Recommended brake discs: RT-MT800. Thanks to the 10 per cent greater spacing between the brake pads, the brakes can be adjusted more effectively and noise is minimised.
The new 105 BR-R7170 brake caliper offers improved modulation, a quieter braking system and an extremely simple bleeding process. The 105 R7170 disc brake caliper offers road cyclists a completely new sense of control thanks to its improved modulation and faster-engaging initial braking force. Despite its flatter design, the system produces less braking noise than ever before and is easier to maintain. The bleed system has been redesigned and made significantly simpler.
Shimano 105 FC R7100 crankset:
Hollow-forged crank arms and a reduced outer surface area lower the weight of the new 105 FC R7100 crankset. The design of the 2x12-speed Hollowtech II crankset not only boasts a look and aesthetic with cult potential, but also ensures enhanced performance. A wider, yet lighter than its predecessor, crank arm and the large chainrings with Hollowglide technology increase stiffness and optimise power transfer to the pedal.
Optional bottom brackets:
We offer optional bottom brackets from Shimano, Wheels Manufacturing and FSA for this groupset. This allows the crankset to be fitted into all standard bottom bracket shells.
Shimano 105 cassette
The 12-speed cassettes with their close-ratio gearing down to a 19-tooth sprocket guarantee the perfect gear ratio at all times and are also perfectly suited to mountain riding. Shimano employs large chain wrap angles in its 12-speed drivetrains. This ensures highly efficient power transfer and smooth running. Naturally, this also improves the durability of the drivetrain. The tried-and-tested CNM7100 chains are used.
Shimano CN-M7100 Chain
The Shimano chain for 12-speed road bike and MTB drivetrains. The special asymmetrical outer and inner links, combined with Shimano’s SIL-TEC surface coating, minimise friction, optimise performance and also reduce dirt build-up.
The chain is perfectly matched to the 12-speed Shimano chainrings with Dynamic Chain Engagement+ (DCE+) tooth profiles. The HG Plus chain has been completely redesigned and features even finer, precision-machined contact surfaces with the sprockets and chainrings, particularly on the inner links. Furthermore, the inner links are chrome-plated, making them even more durable whilst delivering excellent shifting performance when shifting up or down.
Compatible bottom bracket shells – bottom brackets
There is now a wide variety of bottom bracket shells on modern frames. Shimano only offers compatible bottom brackets for some of these. To ensure the Ultegra groupset fits all frames, we supply optional FSA or Wheels MFG bottom brackets for the bottom bracket shells for which Shimano does not offer bottom brackets. Wheels Outboard bottom brackets are significantly more durable than standard press-fit bearings, as the cup halves are bolted together, ensuring they sit flat and securely within the frame. Wheels bearings are available in various quality grades: ABEC3 standard bearings, angular contact bearings and ceramic bearings.
