The high-end enduro disc brake with maximum braking power, thanks to the 4-piston BR-M9220 caliper and the BL-M9220 brake lever with ServoWave technology.

Shimano XTR BL-M9220 brake lever:

The BL-M9220 brake lever has been developed with modern ergonomic principles in mind and with the human hand at the centre, offering a powerful pull with a consistent lever feel and modulation for ultimate control. A new, closer pivot point follows the natural curve of the finger, whilst the lever, angled upwards by 5 degrees, and the finely tuned reach position the rider in a natural posture for mastering technical trail sections. The redesigned SERVO WAVE mechanism optimises braking power delivery without friction, whilst the new low-viscosity mineral oil ensures consistent braking power at all temperatures and on any terrain.

Shimano XTR BR-M9220 brake caliper:

With its high stability and control, the BR-M9220 is the most powerful brake caliper in the XTR M9200 family. The new low-viscosity oil ensures that the brake pad contact point of the M9220 brakes remains consistent in all terrain and weather conditions, and the new brake pads eliminate vibration-induced rattling noises. Greater braking power and stability, combined with quiet operation, ensure precise control on demanding trails.

• Updated seals and low-viscosity oil: Reliable pad contact point in all temperatures and trail conditions.
• Predictable braking power: A DH-suitable performance curve, perfected for enduro racing.
• Heat dissipation: Resin or metal pads, with or without cooling fins, allow for precise fine-tuning of the braking feel (when used with SHIMANO brake discs).
• No rattling: Redesigned brake pads and oval mounts prevent unnecessary noise.

Shimano I-Spec EV mounting:

The new I-Spec EV system offers a wider adjustment range with 14 mm lateral movement and 60 degrees of rotation. The I-Spec EV mount is not compatible with older I-Spec Type A, Type B or Type II mounts.

The Shimano XTR brake caliper uses the Post Mount standard.

IS 2000: Side-mounted. An adapter is always required to fit the brake; maximum 203 mm, minimum 160 mm on the fork and 140 mm disc size on the frame. Common on older suspension forks and almost all rear triangle frames

Post Mount, PM5: Direct mounting of the brake without an adapter, using 140 mm brake discs. Maximum 180 mm, minimum 140 mm disc size. Currently found only on rear triangle frames

Post Mount, PM6: Direct mounting of the brake with 160 mm brake discs without an adapter. Maximum 220 mm, minimum 160 mm on the fork and 140 mm disc size on the frame. Currently the most common standard on forks, and on some rear triangle frames.

Post Mount, PM7: Direct mounting of the brake with 180mm discs without an adapter. Maximum 220mm, minimum 180mm disc size. 140mm and 160mm disc sizes are not possible. Found on some enduro suspension forks such as the Magura Thor and on some rear triangle frames such as the Liteville 301.

Post Mount, PM8: Direct mounting without an adapter for brakes with 203mm brake discs. Can only be used with 203mm and 220mm brake discs. Only found on downhill suspension forks and frames from
