Shimano GRX Di2, the new gravel components in the electronic Di2 version, designed for 11x2-speed drivetrains and cassettes up to 34 teeth. With a 48/31-tooth crankset, the GRX 11x2-speed components offer a very wide gear range for a variety of applications, from gravel and cyclocross to touring. Shimano GRX, the first gravel-specific component family designed equally for speed and safe bike handling on loose surfaces, is the result of an intensive and extensive research, testing and development process that incorporated information and feedback from countless riders who are out and about on trails, forest tracks, gravel roads or tarmac. Whether it’s gravel riding in the strictest sense, road bike adventures off-road, bikepacking, commuting or the demands of competitive cyclocross riders: Shimano’s GRX components offer countless options that leave nothing to be desired, from gear ratios and spacing, customisable ergonomics and integrated control of dropper seatposts right through to specific gravel wheelsets with wider rim profiles. The 11-speed road bike cassettes (11x30 to 11-34 teeth) can be used.
Shimano GRX RD-RX815 Di2 rear derailleur
The RX 815 version of the GRX Di2 rear derailleur allows the use of cassettes with up to 34 teeth. The new GRX Di2 rear derailleurs deliver quiet, smooth, precise and reliable shifting even on the most demanding terrain. This is primarily thanks to the Shadow RD+ chain stabilisation system, which prevents chain slap and unnecessary movement of the derailleur cage, thereby ensuring uninterrupted shifting performance. Similar to Shimano’s mountain bike rear derailleurs, there is an on/off switch next to the upper pulley. When activated, the derailleur pawl locks firmly in place to reduce excessive movement, noise and general chain noise. The GRX Di2 derailleur offers the Syncro Shift function, programmable via the Bluetooth interface (EW-WU111), allowing the rear derailleur and front derailleur to be operated with a single lever. The system then automatically selects the front derailleur function to shift into the next gear. Precise, lightning-fast shifting at the touch of a button, in any situation. Precise. Equipped with a crash mechanism that disconnects the connection to the motor in the event of strong external forces to prevent damage.
Shimano GRX RD-RX817 Di2 rear derailleur
The RX 817 version of the GRX Di2 rear derailleur allows the use of cassettes with up to 40 or 42 teeth with a single chainring. The new GRX Di2 rear derailleurs are characterised by quiet, smooth, precise and reliable shifting, even on the most demanding terrain. Synchro-Shift technology
Synchro-Shift technology greatly simplifies shifting and significantly reduces the number of decisions riders have to make whilst riding. Particularly in critical race situations or when riding at the limit, riders often have to juggle a multitude of decisions alongside the physical strain, which can frequently lead to errors and poor choices. The fewer decisions there are to make, the better the decisions will be and the more attention can be focused on the race. This is precisely what Shimano Synchro-Shift technology enables, always selecting the optimal next-larger or next-smaller gear combination, regardless of whether this requires shifting at the rear derailleur and/or the front derailleur.
Shimano Synchro-Shift functions
- Full Synchro-Shift: The front derailleur reacts to the gear changes the rider makes on the rear derailleur. Essentially, this means that only one shifter with two buttons is needed to operate both the rear and front derailleurs.
- Semi Synchro-Shift: The rear derailleur responds to the gear changes the rider makes on the front derailleur. The rear derailleur automatically performs the necessary compensatory shifts for small changes in cadence when shifting up or down on the front derailleur.
Shimano Di2 Cockpit Junction Port A SM EW90A/B:
The junction unit features a battery indicator and a setting function for the rear derailleur. The Di2 Cockpit Junction Port A accommodates the cables from the shift levers and bundles them into a single cable leading to the battery. The right and left shift levers are connected to this port. In addition, the EW-SD50 cables are required to connect the battery, rear derailleur and front derailleur. The Junction Port A is available in two versions, with 3 and 5 connection points. The 5-port version allows for the installation of additional shift levers, such as bar-end shifters. Furthermore, the 5-port version also features the ANT+ interface for operating the SC-R770 computer and other ANT+ devices.
Shimano Di2 Junction Port B SM JC40/41:
The cable connection for internal cable routing for the Shimano Di2 groupset. This junction box is used to connect the power cables from the rear derailleur, front derailleur, STI shift-brake levers and battery. Available for mounting in the frame or under the bottom bracket. Due to the low weight of the SM-JC41 (just 4g), a frame mount for the junction box is not strictly necessary.
Shimano Di2 Junction Port B SM BTC1:
The external junction box is mounted on the bottle cage. It also serves as a battery holder and has 6 connectors for the Di2 cables. It is particularly useful for frames that do not allow for internal cable routing.
Shimano Di2 Wireless Bluetooth, ANT+:
To use the Shimano Di2 wireless function, the new BT-DN110 battery and the EW-WU111 or EW-WU101 Bluetooth module are required. Programming can then be carried out via a Bluetooth device. At the same time, the wireless interface offers ANT+ transmission for displaying data such as gear selection on bike computers equipped with the ANT+ interface. The wireless interface is connected into the standard wiring. An additional short cable is required for this.
Shimano Di2 installation:
Installing Shimano Di2 components is almost easier than fitting traditional gear systems. The standardised cable connections and the junction box ensure straightforward and quick installation. The shift levers are connected to Junction Port A on the junction box; a cable runs from Junction Port A to Junction Port B on the junction box, and from there the cables run to the rear derailleur, front derailleur and battery. The battery can be mounted externally on the bottle cage or internally in the seat tube or down tube. Frames specifically designed for this purpose are required for internal cable routing.
To use the wireless function, the new BT-DN110 battery and the EW-WU111 Bluetooth module are also required.
Shimano GRX STI R815 Disc Levers:
The GRX Di2 STI hydraulic disc shift/brake lever ST-R815. Extremely fast and precise with larger shift buttons. Thanks to electronic transmission of shift commands, these are executed without delay. Operation is similar to that of mechanical STI levers; shifting occurs at the touch of a button. The new 11-speed shift levers are also equipped with the programmable Multishift function. The GRX Di2 components are the new benchmark in the gravel and cyclocross sectors. With the electronic STI Disc shift-brake lever ST-R815 Di2, Shimano introduces a very compact shift-brake lever for hydraulic disc brakes and the electronic Di2 shifting systems, marking another milestone in the development of hydraulic disc brake systems for road bikes. The GRX Di2 STI levers offer optimum ergonomics thanks to their adjustable grip width. Thanks to electronic transmission of shift commands, these are executed without delay. Operation is similar to that of the mechanical STI levers, with shifting at the touch of a button. The new 11-speed shifters are also equipped with the programmable Multishift function. Shimano’s engineers have succeeded in integrating a mineral oil cylinder, including the complete braking system, into the still very compact mechanical shift-brake levers. The Dual Control shift/brake levers can be optimally adjusted to the rider via a grip width adjustment and are also very well suited for riders with small hands. The grips feature an anti-slip coating for greater control on constantly changing terrain
Shimano Flat Mount Brake Caliper BR-RX810:
The BR-RX810 road bike disc brake caliper is torsionally rigid and approved for brake discs up to 160 mm. Equipped with brake pads featuring external cooling fins, brake heat is reliably dissipated. These calipers are compatible with all Shimano disc brake levers. Recommended brake discs: SM-RT800, SM-RT86
Flat Mount Standard:
The new Flat Mount caliper standard for road bike brakes reduces weight and offers a significantly sleeker look. With the Flat Mount Standard, the rear brake caliper sits directly on the chainstay; no adapter is required for mounting the brake caliper. The bolts pass through the chainstay from below directly into the brake caliper. A flat adapter is still required on the fork. The adapter is screwed onto the rear of the fork leg, and the brake sits directly on the adapter.
Shimano Post Mount Brake Caliper BRRS785:
The BR-RS785 road bike disc brake caliper is torsionally rigid and approved for brake discs up to 160 mm. Equipped with brake pads featuring external cooling fins, brake heat is reliably dissipated. These brake calipers are compatible with all Shimano disc brake levers and feature the Post Mount 6 mounting standard.
Post Mount Standard:
The Post Mount brake caliper standard, with a bolt spacing of 74 mm, was originally developed for MTB use. It is still found on some gravel frames. With this standard, only 160 mm brake discs can be fitted to gravel bikes. To achieve this, the brake caliper is screwed directly onto the frame or fork.
Although larger discs would be technically possible, the gravel calipers are not approved for this; as a rule, gravel frames are also only approved for disc sizes up to 160 mm. With an adapter, Post Mount calipers can also be fitted to frames and forks with IS2000 mounts.
