The Schmidt SONdelux hub dynamo.
The SonDelux hub dynamo offers excellent smoothness, high efficiency and is the ideal complement to Schmidt’s Edelux lamps.
It is the successor to the classic SON. Naturally, like all SON models, it is manufactured with the AWS pressure compensation system. Weighing 390g, it is the lightest hub dynamo in the world. It is available in many variants. Link to selection guide: Which SON is the right one? It is suitable for tandems and a version with disc brake mounting is in the pipeline. Radial lacing is permitted and it is available in all spoke counts – 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 – in black and silver. According to the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVZO), it is approved for wheel diameters from 16” to 20”. However, in an era of energy-efficient LED lights, it is also a sensible choice for 26” and 28” wheels, as it has particularly low energy loss there and still produces plenty of light even at low speeds. Thanks to its reduced flange spacing and diameter, it is barely more noticeable than a hub dynamo.
