Schmidt Edelux DC 170 e-bike light for 5 to 15 volts, 170 lux, colour: red, without cable
Schmidt Son Edelux DC 170 bicycle light
The new Edelux DC 170 headlamp from Son is approved for use with pedelec systems up to 25 km/h at voltages between 5 and 15 volts. Its particularly high power consumption of 6 watts, compared to the Edelux II DC, enables an illuminance of up to 170 lux. The DC power supply is provided by the pedelec’s battery. The Edelux DC 170 must not be connected to standard hub dynamos, as these generate AC current. The Edelux DC 170 is also not suitable for connection to pedelec systems with Neodrives V2 or V5 batteries. For this purpose, Son offers the Edelux DC 150.
A new connection technology allows for quick and easy installation of the power cable: simply unscrew the aluminium cover on the rear and clip the cable directly onto the headlight. No more tedious stripping of insulation!

Schmidt Edelux DC 170 Optics:
The Edelux uses the IQ-Tec offset reflector from Busch & Müller. Unlike conventional headlight optics, this captures a very high proportion of the light emitted by the LED and ensures a wide and evenly illuminated path. Thanks to a sharp cut-off at the front edge, glare for oncoming cyclists is avoided. Minimal upward light scatter means low indirect self-glare in foggy conditions. The black ring around the edge of the reflector prevents direct self-glare when the headlamp is positioned within your own field of vision. Precise adjustment of each LED and bench testing of every headlamp ensure consistent quality. The anti-reflective front lens is scratch-resistant and transmits 6 per cent more light than a plastic lens.
Schmidt Edelux DC 170 Heat dissipation, mechanics, electrics:
The efficiency and service life of the LED depend primarily on its cooling. The LED is therefore mounted directly on a solid copper heat sink, which in turn transfers the heat to the aluminium housing. In addition, an innovative ventilation membrane provides cooling whilst offering protection against moisture. The effective cooling ensures 20 per cent more luminous flux at high speeds compared to conventional LED headlights, where the LEDs can sometimes reach temperatures in excess of 100 degrees.
