Shimano XTR Di2 RD-M9050 GS 11-speed Shadow Plus rear derailleur
The new Shimano XTR 11-speed Di2 electronic components, designed for use ranging from cross-country to enduro, and 1-speed cranksets
Shimano XTR Di2 RD-M9050 GS Rear Derailleur:
The XTR Di2 shifting system enables seamless control and immediate response, which only digital shifting with the Shimano M9000 Rhythm Step drivetrain can offer. This heralds the digital age for mountain bikers, bringing with it a level of control never before seen whilst riding, regardless of the discipline. The combination of Di2 with close gear ratios means that shifting becomes second nature. Less effort is required when shifting, and outstanding ergonomics ensure effortless shifting, allowing your hand to remain firmly on the handlebars, so that you always have perfect control over riding manoeuvres and gear changes. With the XTR Di2 drivetrain, gear changes are virtually effortless, even on the MTB groupset, achieved by briefly or firmly pressing the Firebolt shift levers. The XTR Di2 Shadow Plus rear derailleur shifts with extreme precision, speed and even smoother operation thanks to its new, slimmer design. The fluorine-coated stainless steel bushings and extremely precise machined fits ensure a long service life. All new XTR Di2 and XT Di2 11-speed MTB components can be combined with one another thanks to the E-Tube Concept.
Shimano XTR Di2 programming:
Individual assignment of shifting functions and shift levers is possible. Control of the front derailleur can be assigned from the left to the right shift lever, and that of the rear derailleur from the right to the left. The programmable Multi-Shift function allows a maximum of all eleven gears to be shifted at once whilst the shift lever is held down. Furthermore, the entire drivetrain, including the front derailleur and rear derailleur, can be operated using a single Firebolt shifter. Shimano calls this feature Synchro Shift. Depending on the position of the rear derailleur, the front derailleur knows when it needs to shift and carries out the corresponding gear changes at the crankset. The shifting speed is also programmable.
The Shimano Shadow Plus mechanism:
The Shimano Shadow Plus mechanism has been further developed on the XTR RD-M9000 rear derailleur. With the ability to adjust the friction damper as desired via a screw mechanism, the system can be fine-tuned to prioritise maximum stability or minimal operating forces. Furthermore, the rear derailleur features an even slimmer profile, which protects it from damage and further reduces operating forces thanks to the shallow angle of engagement.
Shimano XTR RD-M9050 Rear Derailleur Compatibility:
The new Shimano 11-speed XTR Di2 series is only compatible with the XTR 11-speed SLWM9050 shift levers. The HG-900 chain is recommended. The 11-speed XTR cassettes are also compatible with 9-10-speed Shimano-compatible freehub bodies.
Shimano Di2 installation:
Installing Shimano Di2 components is almost easier than fitting traditional gear systems. The standardised E-Tube cable connectors and the Junction B distribution box ensure straightforward and quick installation. The shift lever(s) are connected to the display; a cable runs from the display to the Junction B hub, and from there the cables run to the rear derailleur, front derailleur and battery. The battery can be mounted externally on the bottle cage, or internally in the seat tube, down tube or steerer tube. Frames specifically designed for this purpose are required for internal cable routing.
Shimano Di2 Junction B Port:
The Junction B junction box is responsible for connecting the rear derailleur, front derailleur, battery and shift levers. The Junction B port is available in two versions: the internal SMJC41, for fully internal routing, and the SMJC40 for mounting beneath the bottom bracket, should fully internal routing not be possible.
The SMBTC1 battery holder is available as an option. This allows for external mounting of the SMBTR2 round battery. At the same time, the SMBTC1 battery holder provides the Junction B connections – a total of 6 ports – meaning the additional Junction B port is not required. The additional 2 ports not used by the drivetrain can be utilised to power electric suspension components.
