The XT Shadow rear derailleur RD-M772 is only available in the Top Normal version; it shifts to the larger sprockets via a cable.

One of the highlights of the new XT is undoubtedly the Shimano Shadow rear derailleur RD-M772. Originally developed for all-mountain bikers, it is sure to find many fans amongst other mountain bikers too. Shimano Shadow is a new shifting system featuring a rear derailleur with a super-slim profile, saving 11–18 mm, which significantly reduces the risk of damage on narrow, challenging trails.

Furthermore, the Shadow rear derailleur offers greater vertical stability, which reduces the rear derailleur hitting the right seatstay on bumpy trails. The rear derailleur is precisely positioned and works perfectly. Particular attention was paid to keeping the weight as low as possible and ensuring crisp shifting for extreme use. The cable length has been reduced, as less cable means less friction and therefore better feedback.
