Not road, not cyclocross – gravel races, i.e. races on gravel, are all the rage and attracting more and more participants. The Gravel Grinder is therefore particularly at home on long-distance routes over unpaved paths. And, of course, in everyday use, which requires a particularly hard-wearing tyre.

The Gravel Grinder Race is the all-round gravel tyre. It is therefore particularly at home on long distances over unpaved paths. But this hard-wearing tyre with puncture protection insert also performs well in everyday use. The flat tread keeps rolling resistance low, whilst the higher side knobs provide the necessary grip in corners. The folding tyre features a 120 TPI nylon casing and a Puncture Protection Strip (PPS), an additional layer of high-strength fabric between the casing and the tyre to reduce the risk of punctures.

Race Series Vulcanised Clincher with Nylon Casing

• Vulcanised tyres made from natural rubber offer excellent value for money and high durability, albeit at the expense of comfort and performance.
• Nylon is a carcass braid available in three main thread counts – 33, 60 and 120 TPI (threads per inch) – and is wound around a steel or aramid bead. The nylon braid is dipped into a bath of butyl rubber and then calendered between large steel rollers, compressed to produce the finished carcass. In bicycle tyres, nylon offers a first-class cost-benefit ratio thanks to its low price and comparatively simple processing.

Vulcanised synthetic rubber

• To combine a long service life with good riding characteristics, synthetic rubber is vulcanised and hardened. The result is Challenge’s Vulcanised Clincher range: smooth-rolling tyres with high grip and good comfort at an affordable price.

Puncture Protection System (PPS)

• The PPS (Puncture Protection System) consists of one or more layers of fabric between the tread and the tyre carcass. PPS significantly increases the tyre’s resistance to punctures, thereby offering maximum reliability.
