Zipp 454 NSW WH-454-NTLD-C1
The Zipp 454 NSW Tubeless for disc brakes is the ultimate wheelset for road racing. This wheel delivers everything the performance-oriented cyclist demands. It is aerodynamically efficient and stable in all wind conditions. In addition, a wider rim has been developed for tubeless tyres with lower pressure to reduce rolling resistance and vibration losses, so you lose as little energy as possible on the road. This wheel is optimised for 25 mm tubeless tyres for maximum speed. The 454 NSW features Zipp’s most advanced technologies. The 58mm Sawtooth rim profile with Hyperfoils is our most aerodynamic and stable wheel. The 454 NSW features Zipp’s Total System Efficiency (TSE), Zipp’s approach to combating the biggest obstacles to speed: wind resistance, gravity, rolling resistance and vibration losses. The use of hookless straight rims in the 454 NSW is a key part of Making You Faster. With Hookless, the transition between tyre and rim is smoother and more aerodynamic. Zipp’s hookless rims have a more efficient resin distribution, resulting in lighter and stronger wheels. An outdoor test commissioned by Zipp has demonstrated the benefits of Zipp TSE in practice. A 85 kg combined rider-and-bike system requires 278 watts to maintain a speed of 40 km/h on the new 454 NSW with 25 mm tyres. That is a saving of 10 watts compared to the previous 454 NSW model. I
Zipp 454 NSW rim:
The hookless tubeless rims are only suitable for use with tubeless tyres
The most visually striking and functionally significant innovation is the hand-built 454 NSW Sawtooth rim. The patented new biomimetic 53/58 mm deep rim shape achieves something conventional aero wheels cannot: it simultaneously reduces both aerodynamic drag and crosswind susceptibility for the ultimate AeroBalance. Zipp achieves this with a series of patented fin-shaped Hyperfoil profiles along the rim’s inner diameter, which, together with our new HexFin ABLC dimples, ensure improved airflow. The result is Zipp’s most powerful wheelset ever tested in a wind tunnel.
Zipp ZR1 SL Disc Centerlock Hubs:
Zipp’s ZR1 SL is a race-ready, lightweight hubset designed for high performance and durability. The SL version is based on the ZR1 hub and features a lighter hub shell and bearing system. Developed in Germany, the ZR1 SL hubset with high-end ceramic hub bearings features an improved seal design and faster response thanks to the freehub body’s 66 engagement points. It incorporates key technologies from the Zipp Cognition hubs. The seal design is based on Cognition, with a larger dust cap behind the freehub body and improved seals for greater protection. The bearing size is also the same as on the Cognition, although the Cognition uses premium bearings. The six pawls are staggered to operate in two groups of three. Three pawls are always engaged at any given time. This design creates a quick engagement feel with 66 engagement points. The freehub body is designed so that the pawls remain in place during disassembly to simplify maintenance. Zipp hubs are designed for use with J-bend spokes, the most popular type of spoke today.

Important note:
- Zipp rimless rims are NOT compatible with tyres that require a minimum pressure of more than 5 bar (73 psi). Please adhere to the minimum air pressure recommended by the tyre manufacturer, which is indicated on your tyre. Zipp rimless wheel and tyre systems should never be inflated to more than 5 bar (73 psi).
- Provided they are fitted with tubeless beads, wider gravel tyres ridden at lower pressures can generally also be used on hookless rims. If in doubt, you should contact the tyre manufacturer.
- Zipp’s tubeless rims are only suitable for tubeless tyres. Inner tubes are fine, but the tyre must have tubeless beads to ensure a secure fit.
- Zipp wheels with rimless rims meet existing industry standards for the dimensions that control the tyre fit. The tyre manufacturer ultimately determines the compatibility of its tyre with these standards. Zipp actively collaborates with tyre manufacturers on the ISO and ETRTO committees to develop uniform international standards for tubeless road bike tyres.
- Therefore, any tubeless tyre that meets these international standards should be compatible. However, tyre brands have the right to determine which products are compatible with clincher-free rims and which are not.
- If you are interested in a tyre that is not listed here, you should check with the tyre manufacturer or visit their website to confirm whether the tyre is compatible with Zipp wheels.
- Zipp’s tyre pressure guide will help you determine your ideal pressure. Consider a wider tyre width if the recommended pressure for your setup is too close to 73 psi / 5 bar.

Hookless TSS (Tubeless Straight Side) rims:
are characterised by a hookless rim profile. Unlike hook rims, they do not have a mechanical interlock between the tyre bead and the rim flange. On hookless rims, the tyre is held in place solely by the tyre bead and the frictional forces between the tyre and the rim sidewall. On a hooked rim, the tyre is additionally secured by the mechanical interlock between the tyre bead and the rim flange. Hookless setups are more sensitive to potential deviations in system tolerances. It is therefore essential that all specifications regarding hookless compatibility provided by tyre and wheel manufacturers are followed. Adherence to the maximum tyre pressure and maximum inner rim width is crucial for the safe use of hookless rims. The maximum specifications for air pressure and inner rim width when fitting to hookless rims and rim flanges can be found on the tyre packaging.
