Wheels Manufacturing Outboard Bottom Bracket
The Outboard bottom brackets from Wheels Manufacturing allow MTB and road cranks with a 24 mm axle to be fitted into frames with PressFit30 bottom bracket shells with a 46 mm press-fit dimension at 68 and 73 mm widths.
Unlike other press-fit bottom brackets, the Wheels Manufacturing Outboard cups are bolted together. This has the major advantage that the bottom bracket shell sits very securely and absolutely parallel within the frame. This ensures a long service life for the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket cups are made from high-strength aluminium.
Wheels Enduro ABEC3 ball bearings:
The Wheels Enduro ABEC3 ball bearings offer very high precision. The balls are twice as round as standard industrial bearings, with a roundness tolerance of within 10/1,000,000. The ball material, 52100 high-carbon chromium alloy, is extremely robust and specially hardened. It is also polished to a high gloss.
Pressfit 30 / 68–73 bottom bracket shells:
The Pressfit 30 bottom bracket shells have a width of 73 to 68 mm and a press-fit dimension for the bottom bracket of 46 mm. These bottom brackets are pressed in. With Wheels or Cane Creek bottom brackets, the bottom bracket cups are screwed together and thus pulled into the bottom bracket shell. This is the significantly more durable assembly method, as the bearings are additionally secured by the bottom bracket cups.

Wheels Outboard bottom bracket compatibility:
Compatible with Shimano Hollowtech II, FSA Megaexo and Race Face X Type cranksets with a solid 24 mm axle. MTB and road bike; for installation in a 68 mm bottom bracket shell, 5 washers (item no. BB-24MM-1.0) are required for MTB cranksets. For installation, use a Hollowtech II-compatible bottom bracket tool such as TL-FC32 or TL-FC33
Shimano Hollowtech II 24 mm MTB crank axle:
The Shimano Hollowtech II crankset system features a 24 mm through-axle. The MTB cranksets have a 120 mm long crankset axle. The DH Saint and Zee cranks for 83 and 100 mm installation widths have longer axles and only fit frames with correspondingly wider bottom bracket shells. The respective bottom brackets are compatible with one another.
FSA MegaExo 24 mm / Road - MTB:
The FSA MegaExo crankset system has a solid 24 mm axle, in line with the Shimano Hollowtech II system. However, some models feature a 24.7 mm axle. These bottom brackets are not compatible with those models.
Race Face X-Type crank axle 24 mm:
The Race Face X-Type crankset has a 24 mm through-axle, just like the Shimano Hollowtech II cranks. The X-Type MTB cranks for 73 mm and 68 mm bottom bracket shells have an axle length of 120 mm. The cranks for 83 mm bottom bracket shells have an axle length of 136 mm. The respective bottom brackets are compatible with one another.
