In the brand-new Di2 version, the 2x12-speed GRX RX825 combines SHIMANO’s unique expertise in electronic shifting systems with optimised gear options for a wide variety of gravel riding scenarios – from leisurely tours and races to multi-day adventure trips. The new Di2 groupset features redesigned DUAL CONTROL shift/brake levers for optimum comfort and control, a SHADOW RD+ rear derailleur for reliable chain management, and a gravel-optimised front derailleur for precise shifts from the large to the small chainring and vice versa.Developed with gravel riders in mind who set off on a whim, enjoy venturing down unknown paths or throw themselves into adventures with an uncertain outcome, SHIMANO guarantees precise, trouble-free performance in every conceivable condition with the GRX Di2.

Shimano GRX ST-RX825 STI

Like its 12-speed counterparts in the DURA-ACE, ULTEGRA and SHIMANO 105 Di2 series, the GRX Di2 system relies on cable connections where this makes sense and offers genuine added value, namely in the stable, secure and sustained power supply to the rear derailleur and front derailleur via the central battery. Thin cables connect the rear derailleur and front derailleur directly to the multi-port battery, thereby eliminating the need for connecting elements – known as junctions – and simplifying the installation process. The centralised power supply reduces the complexity of charging procedures and varying charge levels of individual components, whilst ensuring a stable power supply even under high mechanical stress off-road. The new DUAL CONTROL shift/brake levers have been designed to integrate seamlessly into a modern gravel cockpit with flared handlebars. With a slightly rounded shape, the transition from the handlebars to the STI levers is particularly smooth and also increases the grip surface, reducing the risk of pressure points.

Wireless SHIMANO Di2 cockpit

SHIMANO’s 12-speed GRX Di2 features a gravel-specific cockpit, in which raised horns with a ribbed surface texture and non-slip brake levers enable safe and reliable operation even under extreme conditions. As with the previous models, the GRX RX815 series Di2 shift/brake levers, the third Di2 shift button on the inside of the horns on the new DUAL CONTROL levers ensures that your hand does not have to leave the secure grip on the handlebars to control additional functions. Whether used as an additional control option for the shifting system or to conveniently scroll through the pages of a compatible cycle computer, this third button is undoubtedly a huge asset that makes the SHIMANO Di2 system even more versatile.

Additional Di2 switches

The new Di2 system also allows for the integration of additional shifters, another advantage of electronic shifting systems. By expanding the system with additional shifters on the top tube, down tube or aero extensions, riders can select the optimal gear in every conceivable grip position without having to change their grip. However, these additional shifters can also be assigned numerous other functions via the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app, such as controlling compatible bike computers, lap counters and much more.

The new Di2 platform for 12-speed components requires no cable connection to the rear derailleur or front derailleurs. The Di2 Dual Control shift levers ST R8170 have the necessary wireless module integrated. Power is supplied by CR1632 batteries, which have a service life of up to 2 years. The Di2 12-speed rear derailleur, with its additional wireless unit, acts as a receiver and distributor of shift signals and is connected to the battery and front derailleur for power supply and shift command transmission. Additional wireless components, including those from third-party manufacturers, can also be paired with the rear derailleur.

Configuration via E-TUBE PROJECT and FRONT SHIFT NEXT

Using SHIMANO’s E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app, users can, among other things, modify and fine-tune the shift intervals in Multi-Shift mode, the assignment of functions to individual shift buttons, and the parameters for Synchronised and Semi-Synchronised Shift, adapting them to individual preferences, riding style or intended use. The launch of the RX825 coincides with the debut of a brand-new front derailleur shifting function called FRONT SHIFT NEXT. Available in future via a firmware update, the E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist app allows any Di2 button on all 2x12-speed systems – including current road bike groupsets – to be assigned the function of shifting the front derailleur to the currently unused chainring and back again. If the chain is on the large chainring, the button shifts to the small one; if it is on the small chainring, the same button shifts to the large one. The result is even faster, more intuitive shifting, as well as the option to assign the button on the STI that is freed up by this to any other function.
