The Shimano 105 components feature the technology of the Dura-Ace R9000 components, Shadow rear derailleur technology, new front derailleur mechanics, a lighter crankset and a wide range of gear ratios. Thanks to slightly simpler materials, Shimano offers affordable, lightweight and durable 11-speed road bike components with the same high-quality technology. The new Shimano 105 11-speed drivetrain allows the bike to be tuned for specific uses through various gear combinations. The Shimano Ultegra FC R8000 crankset can be fitted with the following chainring combinations: 50-34, 52-36, 53-39, 52-39, 46-36 teeth

To reduce weight and achieve greater torsional stiffness, the three largest sprockets are riveted to an aluminium spider. A new steel alloy improves durability. The excellent shifting performance of the previous model is naturally retained, ensuring the chain runs extremely quietly over the teeth

The 11-speed cassettes in the Shimano 11-speed series are not compatible with older Shimano rear freehub bodies. Mavic freehub bodies are compatible with the 11-speed cassettes; Campagnolo, DT Swiss, Fulcrum and Shimano wheelsets are 11-speed compatible from the 2013 version onwards. Replacement freehub bodies are available for some older wheelsets.
