The new Di2 platform for 12-speed components requires no cable connection between the STI shift levers and the rear derailleur and front derailleurs. The 12 x 2-speed Di2 Dual Control shift levers ST R8170 have the required wireless module integrated. The shift levers are powered by CR1632 batteries. These have a service life of up to 2 years. The Di2 12-speed rear derailleur, with its additional wireless unit, acts as a receiver and distributor of shift signals and is connected to the battery and front derailleur for power supply and shift command transmission. Additional wireless components, including those from third-party manufacturers, can also be paired with the rear derailleur. Furthermore, the rear derailleur features a charging socket and a connection for diagnostic tools.
Shimano Di2 Wireless Installation:
Installing Shimano Di2 components is easier than fitting traditional gear systems. Thanks to the wireless functions of the rear derailleur and shift levers, there is no need for cabling from the handlebars to the battery. Only the rear derailleur and front derailleur are wired to the battery. Using the Shimano app and a mobile phone, tablet, PC or the SMPCE02B diagnostic device, you can then configure the drivetrain entirely to your preferences.
Shimano Ultegra RD R8150 Di2 rear derailleur:
The new Ultegra rear derailleur is the heart of the new 12-speed Di2 components. It provides the wireless functionality and connection to external components, and also houses the charging port. The rear derailleur also houses the transmitter, which enables wireless communication with the STI shifters and other external devices, including those from third-party manufacturers. Furthermore, it features the status LED and the adjustment button, which is used, for example, to switch between Synchro-Shift modes, meaning that the previous Junction A port, SM-RS910, is no longer required.
Precise, lightning-fast shifting at the touch of a button, in any situation. The Shimano Ultegra Di2 RD R8150 rear derailleur is even more compact and lighter than its predecessor and features E-Tube connectors for extremely easy installation. Equipped with a crash mechanism that disconnects the connection to the motor in the event of strong external forces to prevent damage.
Shimano Ultegra FD R8150 Di2 front derailleur:
Lighter, faster and more aerodynamic: the Ultegra 12-speed Di2 front derailleur. Designed for chainring sizes ranging from 50/34 to 54/40 teeth, the new 12-speed Ultegra Di2 front derailleur operates even faster and more precisely. More compact and faster than ever before, the Ultegra R8150 front derailleur delivers shifts with digital precision in all conditions. By combining Shimano’s new Di2 platform with the road bike version of Hyperglide+, the Ultegra R8150 front derailleur shifts between chainrings as quickly and seamlessly as no other model on the market.
Shimano Ultegra Di2 Disc Shift/Brake Levers ST R8170:
The Di2 Disc wireless shift/brake levers, featuring a new ergonomic shape, are characterised by higher levers that are also slightly angled inwards. In addition, the clearance between the brake lever and the handlebar has been slightly increased to provide the optimal balance of comfort and control. Road cyclists will now be able to grip the new levers more securely and comfortably with their thumb and index finger, whilst the remaining three fingers can be positioned comfortably between the handlebars and the brake lever. Thanks to adjustments and enlargements to the design of the shift buttons, these remain easy to reach from the lower handlebar position. Furthermore, the two shift buttons on each STI lever are now positioned at a greater height difference from one another, enabling more intuitive operation, particularly with wet, cold fingers or full-finger gloves. In addition, the shift-brake levers feature classic cable connections for mounting additional shift levers.
Shimano Ultegra Disc Brake Caliper BR-R8170:
The BR-RS8170 road bike disc brake calipers for the 12-speed Ultegra groupset. These calipers are compatible with all Shimano disc brake levers. Recommended brake discs: RT-MT800. Thanks to the 10 per cent greater spacing between the brake pads, the brakes can be adjusted more effectively and noise is minimised.
The new Ultegra BR-R8170 brake caliper offers improved modulation, a quieter braking system and an extremely simple bleeding procedure. The Ultegra R8170 disc brake caliper offers road cyclists a completely new sense of control thanks to its improved modulation and faster-acting initial braking force. Despite its flatter design, the system produces less braking noise than ever before and is easier to maintain. The bleeding system has been redesigned and made significantly simpler.
Synchro-Shift technology
Synchro-Shift technology greatly simplifies gear changes and significantly reduces the number of decisions riders have to make whilst riding. Particularly in critical race situations or when riding at the limit, riders often have to juggle a multitude of decisions alongside the physical strain, which can frequently lead to errors and poor choices. The fewer decisions there are to make, the better the decisions will be and the more attention can be focused on the race. This is precisely what Shimano Synchro-Shift technology enables, always selecting the optimal next-higher or next-lower gear combination, regardless of whether this requires shifting at the rear derailleur and/or the front derailleur.
Shimano Synchro-Shift functions
- Full Synchro-Shift: The front derailleur reacts to the shifts the rider makes on the rear derailleur. Essentially, this means that only one shifter with two levers is needed to operate both the rear and front derailleurs.
- Semi Synchro-Shift: The rear derailleur responds to the gear changes the rider makes on the front derailleur. The rear derailleur automatically performs the necessary compensatory shifting.
Shimano Ultegra Powermeter Power Measurement Technology:
The newly developed power meter crankset from the Ultegra R8100 series with power measurement on both sides. The power meter’s central unit is compactly housed behind the crank spindle, and the strain gauges are integrated into the left and right crank arms. Thanks to the battery integrated into the axle, the Bluetooth interface and the ability to update the power meter’s firmware via the E-Tube platform. The ANT+ Bluetooth® LE interface is compatible with many cycle computers.
Shimano Ultegra R8100 crank arms
Hollow-forged chainrings, thin-walled hollow-forged crank arms and a reduction in the outer surface area reduce the weight of the new Shimano Dura-Ace FCR 9100 crankset to 609 grams. The design of the 2x11-speed Hollowtech II crankset not only boasts a look and aesthetic with cult potential, but also ensures enhanced performance. A wider, yet lighter than the previous model, crank arm and the large chainrings with Hollowglide technology increase stiffness and optimise power transfer to the pedal.
Optional bottom brackets:
We offer optional bottom brackets from Shimano, Wheels Manufacturing and FSA for the Shimano Ultegra R8150 Di2 groupset. This allows the crankset to be fitted into all standard bottom bracket shells.
The Shimano Ultegra CSR8100 cassette, featuring two large sprocket blocks on an aluminium spider, offers Shimano’s outstanding smooth shifting performance combined with low weight and long-lasting durability. Shimano offers replacement sprockets for these cassettes. This means that if only a few are worn, they can be replaced at a reasonable cost.
The 12-speed cassettes, with the new HG12, are also compatible with the previous HG11 freehub bodies. The new 12-speed freehub bodies feature finer teeth. This allows for a significantly better connection between the cassette and the freehub body.
Shimano CN-M8100 Chain
The Shimano chain for 12-speed road bike and MTB drivetrains. Thanks to the special asymmetrical outer and inner links and Shimano’s SIL-TEC surface coating, friction is minimised, performance is optimised and dirt adhesion is reduced.
The chain is perfectly matched to the 12-speed Shimano chainrings with Dynamic Chain Engagement+ (DCE+) tooth profiles. The HG Plus chain has been completely redesigned and features even finer, precision-machined contact surfaces with the sprockets and chainrings, particularly on the inner links. Furthermore, the inner links are chrome-plated, making them even more durable whilst delivering excellent shifting performance when shifting up or down.
Compatible bottom bracket shells – bottom brackets
Modern frames now feature a wide variety of bottom bracket shells. Shimano only offers compatible bottom brackets for some of these. To ensure the Ultegera groupset fits all frames, we supply optional FSA or Wheels MFG bottom brackets for the bottom bracket shells where Shimano does not offer a compatible option. Wheels Outboard bottom brackets are significantly more durable than standard press-fit bearings, as the cup halves are bolted together, ensuring they sit firmly in the frame. Wheels bearings are available in various grades: ABEC3 standard bearings, angular contact bearings and ceramic bearings.
