The Goodyear XPLR Slick is part of a wheel and tyre system that is changing the gravel game. It is a semi-slick gravel race tyre developed for Zipp’s special 303 XPLR SW and S wheel sets and represents the fastest wheel-tyre combination on flat to moderately rough gravel. It performs best in dry conditions. Today, gravel wheel systems are mostly slightly stiffer versions of what’s available for the road: light, stiff, narrow and aerodynamic. The problem is that riding on gravel causes harmful vibrations that slow you down and tire you out over time. Furthermore, gravel tyres generally negate the aerodynamic benefits of traditionally narrow road rims. The Slick is designed to measure 40/45 mm on the 303 XPLR wheel. The new XPLR wheel and tyre system takes a completely new approach, optimising component dimensions to achieve the fastest setup on the market. In addition to unrivalled aero benefits for gravel, the resulting rim width also allows for lower tyre pressure, which helps filter out vibrations and thus saves additional energy. The XPLR Slick offers the most aerodynamic gravel setup with 303 XPLR SW and S wheels and is best suited for racing on flat gravel in dry conditions. Its smooth centre ensures fast rolling, whilst the texture and sidewall provide
a secure feel. The lightweight and supple construction improves ride quality. The M:Wall reinforcements in the sidewalls provide puncture protection against cuts and punctures, allowing the rider to get by with the lowest possible tyre pressure. Finally, the dimensions of the tyre beads are designed to ensure easy fitting and a secure hold on Zipp TSS rims. Only approved tyres may be used on XPLR wheelsets.
