Not road, not cyclocross – gravel races are all the rage and attracting more and more participants. The Gravel Grinder is therefore particularly at home on long distances over unpaved paths. And, of course, in everyday use, which requires a particularly hard-wearing tyre.

The Gravel Grinder is the all-round gravel tyre. It therefore feels particularly at home on long distances over unpaved paths. But this durable tyre with a puncture protection insert also performs well in everyday use. The low-profile tread keeps rolling resistance low, whilst the higher side knobs provide the necessary grip in corners. The folding tyre features a 260 TPI nylon casing and Puncture Protection Strip 2, an additional layer of high-strength fabric between the casing and the tyre to reduce the risk of punctures.

• Handmade tyres combine a multitude of outstanding features to offer maximum comfort and minimal rolling resistance. Carefully selected materials are used in the various tyre grades depending on performance requirements. Soft, supple casings quickly adapt to the shape of the ground surface when rolling and cornering. This increases ground contact and grip and improves shock absorption on poor road surfaces. Soft, natural rubber treads are combined with lightweight, flexible puncture protection.
• Polyester is the most cost-effective of all hand-built casings. It is a synthetic fabric that is very strong and waterproof, offering significantly greater flexibility and durability than comparable nylon materials. Challenge uses high-quality polyester or SuperPoly, a polyester with a higher TPI rating, to produce cost-effective pro-level tyres.

Hand-crafted natural rubber – standard hardness

• Challenge’s hand-built natural rubber tyres are formulated to offer the perfect balance of durability without compromising on performance, comfort and control. Although Challenge tyres wear out 10–20 per cent faster than the competition’s, they score highly with significantly improved performance and a noticeably better riding experience throughout their entire lifespan. Depending on requirements, the tyres are fitted with rubber compounds of varying softness.

Puncture Protection System 2

• Some tyres designed for use on rough roads, cobblestones and gravel are fitted with PPS2, the Puncture Protection System 2. In addition to the standard PPS protective layer between the tread and the carcass, these offer unrivalled puncture protection thanks to an additional PPS fabric layer between the carcass and the inner tube.
