28-inch gravel front wheel, Schmidt SON 28 hub dynamo, quick-release or thru-axle mount, laced with a Mavic XC 1025 Disc rim and DT spokes by TNC

Schmidt Son 28 hub dynamo wheel with Mavic XC 1025 rim

The 28-inch front wheel features the Son 28 dynamo with the 499-gram, wide and extra-sturdy Mavic XC 1025 gravel and cross-country rim with a 25 mm rim width.

We offer the Son 28 hub dynamo for this wheel as either a quick-release 9x100 mm or thru-axle 12x100 and 15x100 mm version, and with 6-bolt and Centerlock brake disc mounts

The SON 28 hub dynamo from Schmidt offers excellent smoothness and very high efficiency. Manufactured and developed in Germany, Schmidt dynamos generally last longer than the bikes in which they are fitted. The ideal complement is the Schmidt Edelux lights, as the SonDelux lights are particularly low-loss yet still provide plenty of light even at low speeds.

Son 28 hub dynamo:

The Son 28 for 12 mm thru-axles. Until now, the discerning cyclist had to choose between the two. The thru-axle stiffens the suspension fork and allows for more precise positioning of the hub, which is particularly beneficial for disc brakes. At 440 g, the weight has been kept pleasingly low; the new SON 28 resembles the SONdelux in both construction and appearance. In the standard version, the flange spacing and bearing spacing have been increased by 12 mm and 10 mm respectively compared to the SONdelux. Compared to the SON 28 Classic model years 2000 to 2011, idle losses have been reduced by approx. 15 per cent and the weight by 140 g. The secret lies in the gearless design using high-quality materials and the adherence to tight tolerances, which is likely only achievable through hand-crafting by a dedicated small team. The dynamo is simply switched off electrically. Thanks to these optimisations, the no-load losses when switched off amount to just 1 watt and are imperceptible even to the most sensitive riders whilst cycling.

Mavic XC 1025 Rim

The new cross-country and gravel rims from Mavic. Tubeless-ready and with a 25 mm internal rim width for tyres from 32–60 mm wide. Featuring a new rim bed for easier tubeless fitting and slightly asymmetrically offset spoke holes for more uniform spoke angles and greater lateral stiffness.

Extra wide and extra sturdy, the Mavic XC 1025 UST rim weighs just 460 grams and is optimised to the very limits of what the material allows. With a 25 mm inner rim width, ideal for tyres from 37–60 mm wide. Double-eyelet, welded rim joint, flat-milled, ISMD 4 weight tuning and manufactured from high-quality, durable Maxtal aluminium. The XC 1025 rim is tubeless ready.

    DT Competition spokes:

The double cold-forged spoke made from rust-proof 18/10 chrome-nickel steel with a tapered middle section for robust, lightweight wheelsets. We recommend these spokes for virtually all wheelsets. Extremely durable and sufficiently lightweight, DT Competition spokes enable wheel building of the highest standard. Thanks to the tapered middle section, the spokes absorb movements in the wheel exceptionally well, without compromising on lateral stiffness or durability. Weight with nipple approx. 7 grams

    DT Swiss Aero Comp spokes:

Designed for stable, laterally stiff yet aerodynamic wheelsets, the DT Swiss Aero Comp spoke is first cold-forged in the middle section, making it lighter and stronger. In a further complex process, it is flat-forged to optimise aerodynamic properties whilst simultaneously increasing material strength. The DT Aero Comp guarantees a balanced ratio of stiffness, aerodynamics and durability.

    DT Swiss Aero Lite spokes:

The DT Swiss Aerolite spoke is flatter and lighter than any other; the DT Swiss Aerolite spoke features an aerodynamic flat profile and is extremely lightweight. Thanks to the 0.9 x 2.3 mm aerodynamic mid-section, this spoke can be fitted to all standard hubs. The Cold Forging Technology (CFT) developed by DT Swiss makes the reduced and forged DT Aerolite the lightest stainless steel spoke and gives it excellent mechanical properties. Particularly suitable for super-light and fast road or cross-country wheelsets. 64 DT Aerolite spokes weigh an incredible 278 g at a length of 264 mm. Weight per spoke at a length of 264 mm: 4.31 grams

DT Swiss Pro Lock Squorx Pro Head spoke nipples:

The Squorx Pro Head nipples are required for the new DT Swiss rims in the new tubeless-ready series. Want to increase the lifespan of a wheel several-fold? That’s only possible with DT Pro Lock! This nipple features an integrated thread-locking system, developed and manufactured by DT Swiss. The two-component adhesive in the nipple thread prevents the spoke-nipple connection from loosening under the influence of operational loads and the loading and unloading of the wheel whilst riding, thereby ensuring constant spoke tension.
