ARC 1400 DICUT® DB
If you want to reach the top, you have to be able to hold your own. Your pursuers are hot on your heels, trying to take the lead. With the 3rd generation of wheels, we have reached a new pinnacle in our development. Wider tyres offer better grip and greater riding comfort. To enable the use of such tyres, the rim shape has been adapted accordingly and continues to provide advantages in competition. The third generation is characterised by a larger inner rim width and a unique V-shape, without compromising on aerodynamics. Wider, taller and lighter: experience a thrilling ride with these wheels that will lead you to your personal victory. Victory isn’t handed to you on a plate. You have to earn it.
Countless tests were necessary for the successful development of wider, taller and lighter wheelsets. For the development of the latest ARC wheelsets, DT Swiss drew on the knowledge gained from previous generations of wheelsets as well as the experience of numerous top athletes across various cycling disciplines.
DT Swiss WTS, Wheel Tire System:
When Swiss Side’s aerodynamic expertise, Continental’s tyre know-how and DT Swiss’s wheel expertise come together, the result is not just the AERO 111 tyre, but a perfected storm. Specially designed aero chambers form the basis for the tyre’s patented tread pattern and generate a turbulent airflow on the surface, which keeps the oncoming air flowing along the rim shape for longer. The result is an optimisation of the sail effect, which delays early flow separation from the rim and thus forms the basis for the most advanced aero wheel-tyre system. It doesn’t matter whether you or your friends are aiming for personal bests or competing in professional races: the tyre reduces wind resistance whilst improving handling and ride characteristics, propelling you forward.
Conti AERO 111 tyres:
The next generation of aerodynamic road bike tyre performance, developed in close collaboration with the experts at DT Swiss and Swiss Side. The AERO 111 is based on the race-proven technologies of the GP5000 TR series and sets new standards in aerodynamics. The race-optimised Black Chili Compound ensures excellent grip and lower rolling resistance, whilst the proven Vectran Breaker provides puncture protection. The patented, aerodynamically optimised tread design features 48 precision-moulded air chambers. These so-called ‘vortex generators’ create controlled turbulence, causing the airflow to cling to the rim for longer, which reduces drag and optimises handling in crosswinds.
DT Swiss ARC 1400 Dicut hubs:
The ARC Dicut hubs are perfectly matched to the Nail Head spoke system and offer the best aerodynamics of any DT Swiss hub. Equipped with high-quality stainless steel bearings and a widened flange spacing for optimum lateral stiffness at low weight. The ratchet body with EXP Ratchet Star pawl is virtually maintenance-free and easy to convert.
DT Swiss Ratchet EXP freehub:
The proven DT Swiss Ratchet system in the new EXP version, featuring the ratchet cage, allows for easy conversion to various axle or rotor standards. The integration of the ratchet cage and threaded ring reduces the number of components, thereby lowering the weight. A single coil spring ensures faster, complete engagement and thus greater reliability.
The DT Swiss Ratchet EXP rear hubs can be easily converted to standard mountings, 10x135mm quick-release and 12x142mm thru-axle mountings. The new end caps with an even more precise fit ensure even greater durability. The rear hubs can be converted to Campagnolo ED, Shimano HG, Microspline and Sram XDR, XD freehub bodies without the need for tools. The complete list of available freehub bodies and end stops can be found further down in the product description.
DT Swiss ARC 1400 Dicut rims:
In professional cycling, there has been a trend towards wider tyres in recent years. This requires rims with a larger inner rim width. The 22 mm rim width is optimised for use with the AERO 111 tyre in a 29 mm width. However, a wider tyre must not come at the expense of aerodynamic performance.A larger rim width has a direct effect on the wheel’s frontal area. The V-shaped rim compensates for this and optimises aerodynamic drag. Wind tunnel tests show that this shape minimises aerodynamic drag. At the same time, the steering torque – i.e. the force acting on the steering under crosswinds – remains low. This can have a positive impact on handling characteristics. Whatever your riding preferences: the three rim heights offer a wide range of applications. Do you enjoy riding at high speeds over varied terrain and don’t want to worry about the occasional steep climb? Then the 55 mm rim height is ideal for you. With a rim height of 65 mm, the aero-optimised profile gives you the edge in sprints and also benefits you on predominantly flat terrain. The 85 mm high rims are our fastest wheels. They offer the lowest aerodynamic drag and are ideal for triathlons and time trials.
Hooked / Crotchet tubeless TC:
‘Hooked’ or ‘Crotchet’ refers to the shape of the rim flange, which features a so-called hook. This helps secure the tyre bead and ensures reliable performance, even when using high tyre pressure (> 5 bar). ‘Tubeless’ means that the rim can be ridden without an inner tube, although a setup with an inner tube is also possible.
DT Swiss ARC 1400 Dicut spokes:
Using an internally developed measuring device, we determined the influence of a lower number of spokes on rotational air resistance. Rotational air resistance can be described as the additional friction that arises when the wheel, with its rotating components, ‘cuts through’ the air. The measurements were carried out at relative approach angles of 0° (head-on, direct airflow) and 10° (crosswind) at 45 km/h. The result is a reduction in aerodynamic drag of 0.2 watts (5.5%) at 0° yaw and 0.5 watts (12%) at 10° yaw (measurement accuracy: < 0.1 watts). The significantly improved figures for the new ARC 1100 DICUT 55 wheelsets can be attributed to the lower number of spokes and the shorter spoke lengths resulting from the 5 mm higher rim profile.
Lacing with the Nail Head System and straight-pull spokes ensures that the spokes cannot twist under load, meaning the spokes are always at the most aerodynamically favourable angle. The DT Swiss Aerocomp spokes, in combination with the internal Prolock Hidden spoke nipples, ensure outstanding aerodynamics.
