The classic RB version of the Cosmic SL wheels for rim brakes, with a 40 mm rim depth and weighing just 1599 grams. The aero wheels for flat stages, marathons and racing. COSMIC SL 40

specifically designed for rim brakes. Our proven iTgMax technology features a patented laser treatment of the braking surface, which reduces braking distance in both dry and wet conditions, whilst a special lay-up and heat treatment process makes them the strongest and most durable of all carbon rims for rim brakes. They are available for Shimano cassettes and can be converted to Campagnolo and SRAM XD-R with optional drive bodies. These wheels were designed, developed and patented by Mavic in Annecy, France, and are 100 per cent hand-built in our European carbon factory.

Mavic Infinity hubs:

The completely newly developed Infinity hubs are equipped with a larger 17 mm axle diameter and larger bearings. This increases the torsional stiffness of the axles by approximately 35 per cent. The proven Mavic QRM auto industrial bearings are used in the Infinity hubs. Equipped with the Instant Drive sprocket freehub body, the ORM auto axle system and self-aligning bearings, they ensure maintenance-free operation over a long period.

Mavic Instant Drive 360 freehub body

The Instant Drive 360 freehub system is super-light and ensures rapid power transfer with a mere 9-degree engagement angle. A large, contact-free rubber seal reduces friction. And a wide selection of axle stubs ensures compatibility with many mounting standards. The oversized aluminium axle and the hardened aluminium freehub body save 40 g. Two sprockets ensure fast and loss-free power transfer. A radial seal guarantees low friction at high speeds and perfect water resistance. This freehub body is easy to convert and is available as an HG11 version for Shimano and SRAM 8-11-speed, SRAM XDR 12-speed road bike and Campagnolo 9-12-speed ED cassettes. A rubber damper is fitted as standard, which can be removed. For those who prefer a slightly more distinctive sound.

Mavic Cosmic SL 40 Clincher Rims:

These 40 mm high and 26 mm wide aero rims with a 19 mm rim width offer excellent aerodynamics and acceleration. Mavic’s iTgMax rim technology provides the best possible resistance to heat build-up. The rim features a NACA rim profile with a depth of 40 mm and a width of 26 mm, specifically designed for all-round performance on flat or undulating terrain. The new rim bed shape makes it easier than ever to fit tubeless and clincher tyres. Riding UST tubeless means no inner tube and therefore no friction, and greater air volume means a smoother ride. The result is a faster ride with extremely low rolling resistance.
Thanks to improved spokes, this wheelset is 80 g lighter than its predecessor, the Cosmic Pro Carbon UST. Combined with our new Infinity hub platform, which ensures a fast and responsive ride out of every corner, they are stiffer and more efficient.

Mavic Aero spokes:

The patented elliptical spoke shape significantly improves aerodynamics. The durability of Mavic stainless steel spokes is exceptionally high.

Mavic Tubeless System:

The new rim bed, with its pronounced and wider grooves, makes tubeless fitting significantly easier. Mavic is thus setting the standard for simple tubeless fitting. The fitting process is no different from that of standard folding tyres. This allows the advantages of tubeless tyres – lower rolling resistance, greater riding comfort and reduced risk of punctures – to come into their own.

Of course, the Mavic Cosmic wheels can also be used with standard folding and clincher tyres and inner tubes without any issues. When out and about, we recommend carrying a standard inner tube as a quick puncture repair solution.
