Mavic Cosmic SL 45 Carbon Disc Wheel

The all-round wheels for road racing, endurance and gravel. Very light, weighing just 1555 grams, very fast thanks to the 45 mm high NACA rim profile, very stable and also suitable for wide tyres thanks to the 23 mm rim width. The new Cosmic SL 45 Disc wheels offer low aerodynamic drag, excellent handling and very high stability. Optimised for 28–45 mm tyres.

Mavic COSMIC SL 45 DISC 23mm

Mavic’s Cosmic SL Carbon wheelsets feature extra-sturdy carbon disc rims with 45 mm high UD carbon rims and Mavic QRM Auto Infinity hubs. These top-of-the-range all-round aero wheelsets impress not only with the lowest rolling resistance in their category, but also with completely new road tubeless technology. This design enables very lightweight and exceptionally sturdy carbon wheels weighing just 1555 grams. The new Infinity Disc hubs are lightweight and compatible with all standard axle-frame systems. The rear wheel features the Instant Drive 360 sprocket freehub body with the new, extra-sturdy QRM Auto bearing system.

Mavic Infinity Disc hubs:

The completely newly developed Infinity hubs are equipped with a larger 17 mm axle diameter and larger bearings. This increases the torsional stiffness of the axles by approximately 35 per cent. The proven Mavic QRM Auto industrial bearings are used in the Infinity hubs. Equipped with the Instant Drive sprocket-style freehub body, the ORM Auto axle system and self-aligning bearings, they ensure maintenance-free operation over a long period.

Mavic Infinity Disc Hub Compatibility:

The oversized aluminium axles allow for easy conversion to all standard axle systems. The Infinity front hub is compatible with QR9x100mm quick-release and QR12x100mm thru-axle mounts, whilst the Infinity rear hub is compatible with 10x135mm quick-release mounts and 12x142mm and 12x135mm thru-axles.

Mavic Instant Drive 360 Freehub Body

The Instant Drive 360 freehub system is super-light and ensures rapid power transfer with a mere 9-degree engagement angle. A large, contact-free rubber seal reduces friction. And a wide selection of axle stubs ensures compatibility with many mounting standards. The oversized aluminium axle and the hardened aluminium freehub body save 40 g. Two sprockets with 40-tooth profiles ensure fast and loss-free power transfer. A radial seal guarantees low friction at high speeds and perfect water resistance. This freehub body is easy to convert and is available as an HG11 version for Shimano and SRAM 8–11-speed, SRAM XDR 12-speed road bike and Campagnolo 9–12-speed ED cassettes. A rubber damper is fitted as standard, which can be removed. For those who prefer a slightly more distinctive sound.

Mavic Cosmic SL 45 Tubeless Disc rims:

These 45 mm high full-carbon aero rims with a 23 mm rim width are perfectly designed for tyre widths of 28–45 mm. The new NACA rim profile offers the best possible aerodynamics. The Adaptive Carbon Lay-Up allows for a weight saving of 70 grams during rim production. Unlike other wheelsets with a uniform lay-up, this exclusive draping technique allows the carbon thickness to be varied locally, depending on the varying demands placed on the wheelset. Specifically, less material is used between the spokes; conversely, the rim is reinforced at the spoke holes where the stresses are highest. All this without ever compromising the stiffness and strength of the wheel for dynamic riding.

Hooked / Crotchet tubeless TC:

Hooked rims, or Crotchet rims, refer to the shape of the rim flange, which features a so-called hook. This supports the tyre bead and ensures that the tyre cannot come off the rim, even when using high tyre pressure > 5 bar. Tubeless means that the rim can be ridden without an inner tube, but a setup with an inner tube is also possible.

Mavic Aero spokes:

The patented elliptical spoke shape significantly improves aerodynamics. The durability of Mavic stainless steel spokes is exceptionally high.

Mavic Tubeless System:

The new rim bed makes fitting tubeless tyres easier. The pronounced and wider grooves in the rim bed significantly simplify tubeless fitting. Mavic is thus setting the standard for easy tubeless fitting. The fitting process is no different from that of standard folding tyres. This allows the advantages of tubeless tyres – lower rolling resistance, greater riding comfort and a reduced risk of punctures – to come into their own.

Of course, the Mavic Cosmic wheels can also be used with standard folding and clincher tyres and inner tubes without any issues. When out and about, we recommend carrying a standard inner tube as a quick puncture repair solution.
