The new high-end Zipp 454 NSW wheels are more than 400 grams lighter than the previous model. Featuring new Cognition V2 hubs and a further-improved Sawtooth rim profile.

The Zipp 454 NSW Tubeless for disc brakes is the ultimate wheelset for road racing. This wheel delivers everything the performance-oriented cyclist demands. It is aerodynamically efficient and stable in all wind conditions. In addition, a wider rim has been developed for tubeless tyres running at lower pressures to reduce rolling resistance and vibration losses, ensuring you lose as little energy as possible on the road. This wheel is optimised for 25 mm tubeless tyres for maximum speed. The 454 NSW features Zipp’s most advanced technologies. The 58mm Sawtooth rim profile with Hyperfoils is our most aerodynamic and stable wheel. The 454 NSW features Zipp’s Total System Efficiency (TSE), our approach to combating the biggest enemies of speed: wind resistance, gravity, rolling resistance and vibration losses. The 454 NSW Tubeless for disc brakes is approximately one pound – over 400 grams – lighter than its predecessors! The use of hookless straight rims in the 454 NSW is a key part of ‘Making You Faster’. With Hookless, the transition between tyre and rim is smoother and more aerodynamic. Zipp’s hookless rims have a more efficient resin distribution, resulting in lighter and stronger wheels. An outdoor test commissioned by Zipp has demonstrated the benefits of the Zipp TSE in practice. An 85 kg combined rider-and-bike system requires 278 watts to maintain a speed of 40 km/h on the new 454 NSW with 25 mm tyres. That is a saving of 10 watts compared to the previous 454 NSW model. At the heart of the 454 NSW is the Cognition V2 hubset, which has been updated with an Axial Clutch V2 mechanism for faster engagement, lower friction and improved durability.

The hookless tubeless rims are only suitable for use with tubeless tyres

The most visually striking and functionally significant innovation is the hand-built 454 NSW Sawtooth rim. The patented new biomimetic 53/58mm-deep rim shape achieves something conventional aero wheels cannot: it simultaneously reduces both aerodynamic drag and crosswind susceptibility for the ultimate AeroBalance. Zipp achieves this with a series of patented fin-shaped Hyperfoil profiles along the rim’s inner diameter, which, together with our new HexFin ABLC dimples, ensure improved airflow. The result is Zipp’s most powerful wheelset ever tested in a wind tunnel.

Zipp Cognition Disc Centerlock V2 hubs:

The Cognition straight-pull hubs, made from high-strength Z310.9 aluminium, are extremely lightweight and feature a new freehub body technology. The Swiss stainless steel bearings are the most precise in the entire industry. The new Axial Clutch freehub system offers significantly lower resistance than conventional freehubs and operates almost maintenance-free. Specially developed hub bodies also distribute the load from the spokes more evenly over a larger area to prevent twisting around the bearings. The result is, once again: lower resistance and greater durability. The 17mm hub axles are exceptionally stiff. The hub itself is milled using modern EDM technology, allowing materials that are 50 per cent harder to be machined with 20 times greater precision. The hubs in the Cognition series with straight-pull spoke mounts offer even greater lateral stiffness.
