EC49/40 Bottom installation dimension:
The EC49 headset is pressed into the head tube at the bottom; the press-fit dimension in the frame is 49 mm and the fork steerer tube diameter is 1.5 inches at the bottom. The headset cone requires a 40 mm seat on the fork at the bottom.
EC/External Cup – external headset:
Head sets designated EC / External Cup are also referred to as external or classic head sets. These head sets require a frame designed for this purpose with an exact match for the bearing cups. ‘External Cup’ refers to the relatively large projection of the bearing cups on the head tube, whilst ‘EC44’, for example, denotes the installation dimension, the outer diameter of the bearing cup and the inner diameter of the bearing cups within the frame. The headsets must be pressed in using a special tool, and the frame must be cleanly pre-milled.
