DT Swiss RWS quick-release skewer, rear wheel, MTB/gravel 135 mm, titanium axle, aluminium lever
RWS stands for Ratchet Wheel Mounting System => the innovative wheel mounting system from DT Swiss! Instead of the eccentric clamping principle developed for road bikes over 80 years ago, the RWS builds up clamping force by tightening a screw connection with a lever. The lever can be set to any position by lifting it axially and turning it.Operation is incredibly simple: tighten the clamp by turning the lever clockwise as tightly as possible by hand, applying a minimum of 15 Nm of torque. Depending on the frame or fork design, this can also be achieved by flipping the lever several times. Then lift the lever and turn it to the desired position – the wheel is securely and firmly mounted. Because there are no plastic parts in the force path with the RWS, the clamping force is temperature-independent, making the RWS 100 per cent compatible with disc brakes! Thanks to the direct transfer of lever force to the thread, the RWS can achieve up to 50 per cent higher clamping force than existing eccentric quick-release mechanisms. This is not only safer but also increases stiffness, which is particularly noticeable with disc brakes.
