Supernova M99 Pro 2 e-bike headlight

The SUPERNOVA M99 PRO 2 is the brightest 12 V e-bike headlight approved under the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVZO).

The high beam of the 16-LED matrix, with up to 3,000 lumens and 450 lux, sets new standards. The new daytime running light module with 12 power LEDs switches to low beam in a fraction of a second via sensor control, for example when entering a tunnel. The headlight also acts as an intelligent control centre, managing electronic components such as USB modules. This allows e-bike components to be operated at a peak power of up to 30 W! That is almost twice as much power as most e-bike drives provide for electrical accessories. Furthermore, thanks to a built-in buffer memory, the M99 PRO 2 – 45 km/h has significantly more power available for the light, as no power needs to be reserved for other consumers that are only in operation for a short time.

The headlight also acts as a smart control centre with an integrated energy storage unit that manages components with short-term high power consumption, such as an electric gearshift, horn or brake light. This allows e-bike components with a peak power of up to 30 W to be operated! That is almost twice as much power as the common e-bike drives provide for electrical accessories.

Furthermore, thanks to this built-in storage, the M99 PRO 2 has much more power available for the light, as no power needs to be reserved for other consumers that are only in operation for a short time. A special feature is the ‘plug and play’ connection system, which allows the end user to add additional features such as a USB charger, heated grips or a horn at a later date without the need for tools. Even replacing a cable can be done easily at home.

The completely new aluminium housing, seamlessly forged from solid aluminium and precisely milled, cools the matrix of 16 high-performance LEDs without a thermal bridge, as only cool LEDs deliver peak performance and last longer. Behind the tempered front glass, the reflector – manufactured with 7-nanometre precision and featuring 99 individually calculated mirror surfaces – is protected from all environmental influences. The UV-resistant, PVC-free cables are durable and remain flexible even at low temperatures. All materials undergo strict quality control during the headlamp’s manufacture in Gundelfingen, Baden. The high manufacturing quality is reflected in a 3-year warranty.

Supernova High Beam:

Supernova is the first manufacturer to launch an approved high beam for bicycles. Since the new legislation came into force, high beams have been among the most important innovations in the bicycle lighting industry. In addition to its literal range, high beam provides enormous illumination and increases safety many times over. For the first time, an approved bicycle light offers illumination for difficult terrain, where cyclists can spot overhanging branches, signs, junctions and pedestrians who are hard to see much more quickly – no matter how steep or winding the trail! Our Supernova high beam has an extremely wide beam angle. This ensures excellent situational awareness, which in turn makes the other advantages described below possible.

M99 MATRIX MIRROR

The future is now! Based on scientific research by the Institute of Lighting Technology at KIT and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the M99 introduces lighting technology that sets completely new standards in bicycle lighting: an LED matrix, intelligently controlled and combined with a highly complex faceted mirror consisting of 99 individually calculated surfaces and designed for unprecedented brilliance. After years of development, it has thus become possible for the first time to pack high-performance automotive technology into the miniature format of a bicycle headlight.

LED COOLING

Maximum performance with the best possible efficiency is our credo. The enormous brightness levels of our headlight systems can only be achieved through sophisticated cooling of the high-performance LEDs. Because: the better an LED is cooled, the brighter it shines. Good cooling also significantly extends the service life. Careful material selection and sophisticated design are among the most important prerequisites for ideal heat dissipation. Completely uninterrupted heat dissipation can, for example, only be achieved through a housing seamlessly manufactured from a single piece of aluminium. In extreme situations, an integrated heat sensor also ensures the headlamp always remains within the optimum temperature range. Through computationally intensive computer simulations, our engineers identify the most suitable method for dissipating heat from the LEDs at an early stage.
